Types of Hamsters

Before getting a hamster, do you know what type you want? Well, check out these types, and see which one you like:

Syrian Hamster

These hamsters are usually referred to as Teddy Bear Hamsters, or Golden Hamsters, and have been kept as pets since 1930s. Syrian hamsters are known to be easy to tame and handle, and come in many different colors. However, if you get one, keep one to a cage. Syrian hamsters are territorial, and will fight with cage mates. They often grow to be around 5-6 inches. Here are the main types of Syrian hamsters:

Long Haired: These will require their coat being brushed occasionally to loosen tangles. Toothbrushes(new and unused) work best for this.

Short Haired:

Females go into heat every 4 days, which will cause them to smell, but other than that, males and females do not have much differences.

Dwarf Hamsters

Dwarf hamsters are littler than Syrian Hamsters, about 4 inches normally. They are a little nippier normally since they have been domesticated for less time, and very fast and energetic. However, it is possible to tame them. 1-2 dwarfs to a cage is a good number, since dwarf hamsters are not as territorial. Here are the types of Dwarf hamsters: (pictures coming soon)
